ClassDojo in its own words
ClassDojo says it "connects K-12 teachers with families," with free classroom communication, behavior tracking and student portfolios (ClassDojo). It also has pages for preschools, for before and after school programs and for summer camps. Its preschool page says it is free for your preschool, your staff and your families. Optional services sold to families, such as ClassDojo Plus, keep it that way (ClassDojo for preschools).
For a preschool, ClassDojo describes logging "meals, naps, activities and notes in seconds, time-stamped for each child." It offers one-click check-in and check-out with built-in reporting. Photos "stay in ClassDojo, not on a teacher's personal phone," and messages translate automatically into 190+ languages. Staff accounts are unlimited and free, with roles you control (ClassDojo for preschools). Its camp page describes taking attendance each morning, with a headcount report when you need one (ClassDojo for summer camps). Its FAQ calls billing and enrollment part of the operational side of a preschool, and says many preschools use ClassDojo alongside an operations platform.
Where Bloomily fits your program better
Bloomily puts the family update and the work around it in the same product: arrival, pickup, enrollment and the bill.
A preschool day that ends with a report. Teachers log meals, naps, diapers and activities, each with a tap on the classroom tablet (Bloomily daily reports). At 3:30 PM they finish the day's report and add photos. Families get it in the app and by email. Each room shows who is in it and whether it has enough teachers (Bloomily for preschools).
Arrival and pickup the office can check. Families check in at a tablet by the door with the last 4 digits of their phone, then a PIN (Bloomily check-in). Parents add pickup people, each with their own PIN. The office sees each one and can remove them (Bloomily for before and after school). Families are notified when their child is checked in or out (Bloomily parent app).
Enrollment and tuition next to the messages. A parent who finds you at 7 PM can book a tour from your website and be on your list by morning. Offers, forms, deposits and waitlists follow from there (Bloomily enrollment). Tuition bills on your charge day, and families on autopay pay without a nudge (Bloomily for preschools). Families view invoices, pay and set up autopay from the parent app.
After-school programs and camps. Before care, after care and early-release days sit on your district's calendar (Bloomily for before and after school). Camp families register from your page and pay a deposit. Counselors share the morning's photos with each group, and families see the group's album in the app (Bloomily for camps).
Messages in each family's language. A parent sets their language once. Your messages arrive translated, and theirs come back in yours (Bloomily communication). Messages run between your team and each family, and you can send one note to a whole room (Bloomily features).
When ClassDojo is enough
ClassDojo may be all you need if your main job is keeping families informed. Its pages describe free messages, photos, daily notes and event sign-ups. If you handle tuition, enrollment and pickup lists another way and it works, a free app for updates is a fair choice.
Look at Bloomily when the update is only part of the problem. Maybe staff sign children in on paper, the office chases tuition by text, and pickup lists live in a binder. Then ask whether you want those jobs and your family updates in one product or in two.
Running both is possible, and ClassDojo says many preschools do. Families may then use two apps, one for updates and one for bills. ClassDojo is free for programs, and Bloomily is a paid plan with one price per location. Weigh that against the work of keeping two systems in step.
Moving from ClassDojo to Bloomily
Bring the list you keep today, as it is. AI help does the reading. That can be a spreadsheet, another system's export, a PDF or a photo of a paper list. It reads children with their birthdays, allergies, dietary notes and medical notes. Nothing saves until you approve it.
When you are ready, send each family one invite. Their child is already on their account. Keep your old system running beside Bloomily as long as you like (Switching to Bloomily).
Questions to ask in both demos
- Can families pay tuition and set up autopay in the same app where they get updates?
- Does check-out record who picked each child up, and check that person against the pickup list?
- Can families apply online, sign forms and join a waitlist?
- Can a director see which rooms have enough teachers right now?
- How do photos stay off staff members' personal phones?
- Can attendance and daily reports be exported in the format your licensing or subsidy agency asks for?
- For a camp: can families pick and pay for single weeks, each with its own capacity?
Which one fits your program
Choose ClassDojo when a free app for messages, photos and daily notes is the whole job, and other tools handle the rest. Choose Bloomily when you want those updates tied to check-in, pickup, enrollment and tuition.
